Eight of the companies, TripAdvisor, Wayfair, Hulu, Nutrish, Johnson &amp; Johnson, Nestle, Atlantis Paradise Island and Stitch Fix, said they were removing their ads. But to hear a prominent television host mock his college rejections was \u201cextremely frustrating,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n<p class=\"story-body-text story-content\" data-para-count=\"137\" data-total-count=\"1557\">\u201cI\u2019m not going to stoop to her level and go after her on a personal level,\u201d he said. \u201cI\u2019m going to go after her advertisers.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"story-body-text story-content\" data-para-count=\"195\" data-total-count=\"1752\">Ms. Ingraham\u2019s remarks went too far for TripAdvisor, which said it planned to stop advertising on the show and that it did not \u201ccondone the inappropriate comments made by this broadcaster.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"story-body-text story-content\" data-para-count=\"322\" data-total-count=\"2074\">\u201cWe also believe Americans can disagree while still being agreeable, and that the free exchange of ideas within a community, in a peaceful manner, is the cornerstone of our democracy,\u201d the company said through a spokesman. \u201cIn our view, these statements focused on a high school student cross the line of decency.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"story-body-text story-content\" data-para-count=\"133\" data-total-count=\"2207\">Nutrish, a pet food brand owned by Rachael Ray, said it was \u201cin the process of removing our ads from Laura Ingraham\u2019s program.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"story-body-text story-content\" data-para-count=\"111\" data-total-count=\"2318\">\u201cThe comments she has made are not consistent with how we feel people should be treated,\u201d the company said.<\/p>\n<p class=\"story-body-text story-content\" data-para-count=\"171\" data-total-count=\"2489\">Wayfair, an e-commerce company, said in a statement that it supports \u201copen dialogue and debate on issues,\u201d but that it would stop advertising on Ms. Ingraham\u2019s show.<\/p>\n<p class=\"story-body-text story-content\" data-para-count=\"171\" data-total-count=\"2489\"><span style=\"font-family: -apple-system, BlinkMacSystemFont, 'Segoe UI', Roboto, Oxygen-Sans, Ubuntu, Cantarell, 'Helvetica Neue', sans-serif;\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"story-body-text story-content\" data-para-count=\"183\" data-total-count=\"2672\">\u201cThe decision of an adult to personally criticize a high school student who has lost his classmates in an unspeakable tragedy is not consistent with our values,\u201d the company said.<\/p>\n<p id=\"story-continues-4\" class=\"story-body-text story-content\" data-para-count=\"357\" data-total-count=\"3029\">Nestle said it had \u201cno plans to buy ads on the show in the future,\u201d while Stitch Fix, a clothing box subscription service, said it had pulled its advertisements. Johnson &amp; Johnson said it had done so as well, while Hulu said on Twitter, \u201cWe are no longer advertising on Laura Ingraham\u2019s show and are monitoring all of our ad placements carefully.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"story-body-text story-content\" data-para-count=\"173\" data-total-count=\"3202\">Expedia said it had \u201crecently pulled the advertising\u201d from Ms. Ingraham\u2019s show, but it did not elaborate on timing or whether the decision was related to her comments.<\/p>\n<p class=\"story-body-text story-content\" data-para-count=\"443\" data-total-count=\"3645\">Consumers have increasingly used social media to demand that advertisers respond to a series of controversies, particularly those involving Fox News hosts. Last year, more than 50 brands\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.nytimes.com\/2017\/04\/20\/business\/media\/fears-of-revolt-by-consumers-felled-bill-oreilly.html\">pulled ads<\/a>\u00a0from \u201cThe O\u2019Reilly Factor\u201d after The New York Times reported on settlements that the show\u2019s host, Bill O\u2019Reilly, had made with women who accused him of sexual harassment or other inappropriate behavior, which contributed to his ouster.<\/p>\n<p class=\"story-body-text story-content\" data-para-count=\"618\" data-total-count=\"4263\">Similar boycott calls around the host Sean Hannity\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.nytimes.com\/2017\/05\/25\/business\/media\/sean-hannity-fox-news-advertisers-ratings.html\">did not gain<\/a>\u00a0as much traction. In November, several brands that\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.nytimes.com\/2017\/11\/14\/business\/media\/sean-hannity-advertisers.html\">initially said<\/a>\u00a0they would stop advertising on Mr. Hannity\u2019s show after comments he made about Roy S. Moore, the former Republican candidate for Senate in Alabama, later walked back those statements. Keurig ignited a firestorm when it said that it planned to halt ads on the show, as Mr. Hannity\u2019s fans posted videos of themselves destroying its machines. The company\u2019s chief executive later apologized to employees for any negativity they had faced from the \u201cappearance of \u2018taking sides.\u2019\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"story-body-text story-content\" data-para-count=\"137\" data-total-count=\"4400\">Mr. Hogg said he was glad that some companies had pulled their ads from Ms. Ingraham\u2019s program, but called it \u201cjust the beginning.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"story-body-text story-content\" data-para-count=\"172\" data-total-count=\"4572\">If all of her advertisers pulled out, he said, \u201cwe can show that if you continue to bully the students that survived a mass murder, there\u2019s going to be consequences.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"story-body-text story-content\" data-para-count=\"57\" data-total-count=\"4629\">\u201cDeal with the issues, not the individuals,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n<p class=\"story-body-text story-content\" data-para-count=\"272\" data-total-count=\"4901\">In February, Ms. Ingraham\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.nytimes.com\/2018\/02\/16\/sports\/basketball\/lebron-laura-ingraham.html\">drew rebukes from N.B.A. players<\/a>\u00a0after she said the basketball superstars LeBron James and Kevin Durant should withhold their political opinions. Mr. James had spoken about his experience as an African-American man and criticized President Trump.<\/p>\n<p class=\"story-body-text story-content\" data-para-count=\"157\" data-total-count=\"5058\">\u201cMust they run their mouths like that?\u201d she asked, adding, \u201cKeep the political commentary to yourself, or as someone once said, shut up and dribble.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"story-body-text story-content\" data-para-count=\"285\" data-total-count=\"5343\">Mr. Hogg plans to study either journalism or political science, he said.
