If Trump\u2019s presidency and the headlines it has generated have been considered a reality show, this was the grocery aisle tabloid rebuttal.<\/p>\n<p data-elm-loc=\"3\">McDougal spoke about a physical relationship she says began in 2006,\u00a0alleging Trump offered her money the first time they were intimate and choking up as she recounted the guilt she felt for being a party to an affair. The two met during a filming for \u201cThe Apprentice\u201d at the Playboy Mansion, where McDougal, who was Playmate of the Year in 1998, was working, she said.<\/p>\n<p data-elm-loc=\"9\">\u201cHe said hello and then throughout the night it was kind of obvious that there was an attraction,\u201d McDougal said.<\/p>\n<p data-elm-loc=\"10\">Trump asked her for her phone number at the end of the night, she said. By his\u00a0next visit to Los Angeles, around his June 14 birthday, they had started speaking on the phone and had planned a \u201cdate\u201d for dinner at the Beverly Hills Hotel.<\/p>\n<div id=\"google_ads_iframe_\/701\/wpni.lifestyle\/arts-and-entertainment_5__container__\">\u00a0Trump\u2019s bodyguard, Keith Schiller, picked her up and drove her to a rear entrance at the hotel, she said.<\/div>\n<p data-elm-loc=\"12\">\u201cI\u2019m thinking to myself, \u2018Are we going to a room because I thought we were having dinner,\u2019 \u201d McDougal said.<\/p>\n<p data-elm-loc=\"13\">The two did have dinner \u2014 in a private bungalow at the hotel, she said.<\/p>\n<p data-elm-loc=\"14\">\u201cThen as the night ended,\u201d she told Cooper, \u201cwe were intimate.\u201d<\/p>\n<p data-elm-loc=\"15\">McDougal said that\u00a0at the end of the night Trump tried to hand her cash \u2014 an experience that she had never had before and one that left her feeling \u201cterrible\u201d and crying in the car ride home.<\/p>\n<p data-elm-loc=\"16\">\u201cThe look on my face must have been so sad,\u201d she said. \u201cI looked at him and said that\u2019s not me, I\u2019m not that kind of girl.\u201d<\/p>\n<p data-elm-loc=\"17\">\u201cI got over it, but it did hurt,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n<p class=\"interstitial-link \" data-elm-loc=\"18\"><i>[<a href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonpost.com\/investigations\/ex-attorney-for-playboy-model-karen-mcdougal-demands-an-end-to-attacks\/2018\/03\/22\/76f6ca80-2dfd-11e8-911f-ca7f68bff0fc_story.html?utm_term=.fc63b5b3f63a\">\u00a0Ex-attorney for Playboy model Karen McDougal demands an end to attacks\u00a0<\/a>]<\/i><\/p>\n<p data-elm-loc=\"19\">Still the relationship between the two blossomed into something far beyond a one-night stand, McDougal said. For\u00a010 months, the couple saw each other\u00a0at least five times a month at hotels, at Trump\u2019s golf courses, a property in Bedminster, N.J., and even at his apartment at Trump Tower, McDougal said. Whenever she booked a flight or a hotel, Trump would reimburse her, to prevent a paper trail she assumed, McDougal\u00a0told Cooper.<\/p>\n<div id=\"google_ads_iframe_\/701\/wpni.lifestyle\/arts-and-entertainment_7__container__\">\u00a0Even so, she felt they formed a genuine\u00a0bond.<\/div>\n<p data-elm-loc=\"21\">\u201cThere were real feelings between the two of us,\u201d McDougal said, saying she considered and \u201cmaybe\u201d even hoped that their relationship could lead to marriage. \u201cHe always told me that he loved me.\u201d<\/p>\n<p data-elm-loc=\"22\">Unlike the belligerent, invective-flinging character people see on television or Twitter, Trump was \u201ccharming,\u201d and \u201ccaring,\u201d said McDougal, who described herself as an avid Republican and proud Trump voter.<\/p>\n<p data-elm-loc=\"23\">She described the guilt she felt visiting the businessman\u2019s Trump Tower apartment, where he showed her a room he said was Melania\u2019s, where \u201cshe likes to have her alone time or to get away to read, or something like that.\u201d<\/p>\n<p data-elm-loc=\"24\">\u201cThat\u2019s when I thought maybe they\u2019re having issues,\u201d she said. \u201cI couldn\u2019t wait to get out. \u2026 Doing something wrong is bad enough, but when you\u2019re doing something wrong and you\u2019re in the middle of someone\u2019s home or bed or whatever, that just puts a little stab in your heart.\u201d<\/p>\n<p data-elm-loc=\"25\">She later met Melania Trump at an event, she said.<\/p>\n<p data-elm-loc=\"26\">McDougal said that the president was very proud of his daughter Ivanka and told McDougal she was \u201cbeautiful like her.\u201d She says she decided to end the relationship in April 2007 because it was \u201ctearing\u201d her apart.<\/p>\n<div id=\"google_ads_iframe_\/701\/wpni.lifestyle\/arts-and-entertainment_8__container__\">\u00a0\u201cWhat can you say except I\u2019m sorry,\u201d McDougal said. \u201cI wouldn\u2019t want it done to me.\u201d<\/div>\n<p data-elm-loc=\"28\">The tone of the interview was serious, as McDougal reflected on a relationship with a man she said she cared for deeply. Cooper\u00a0even pried into intimate details, such as whether\u00a0the two used protection when they had sex. (The answer, if you must know, was no.)<\/p>\n<p data-elm-loc=\"29\">The near-constant chaos and upheaval of the Trump administration has seemed at times to drown out other news events that would have been central scandals during previous presidencies.\u00a0McDougal\u2019s story has surfaced recently, after\u00a0weeks of reports about his alleged affair with the adult-film star Stormy Daniels.<\/p>\n<p><iframe loading=\"lazy\" src=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonpost.com\/video\/c\/embed\/451e349a-2249-11e8-946c-9420060cb7bd\" width=\"480\" height=\"290\" frameborder=\"0\" scrolling=\"no\" allowfullscreen=\"allowfullscreen\"><\/iframe><br \/>\n<span class=\"powa-tease\">It&#8217;s been nearly two months since allegations surfaced of a past affair between President Trump and adult-film actress Stormy Daniels. Now Daniels is suing.<\/span>\u00a0<span class=\"powa-byline franklin-light\">(Jenny Starrs\/The Washington Post)<\/span><\/p>\n<p data-elm-loc=\"31\">Daniels \u2014 who is\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonpost.com\/news\/arts-and-entertainment\/wp\/2018\/03\/21\/cbs-says-it-will-air-60-minutes-interview-with-porn-star-stormy-daniels-this-weekend\/?utm_term=.79404bccc3ad\">scheduled for her own close-up with Anderson Cooper<\/a>\u00a0on the CBS program \u201c60 Minutes\u201d on Sunday \u2014\u00a0was paid $130,000 by Trump\u2019s lawyer, Michael Cohen, to keep silent about the story before the election. She has also filed a lawsuit to void the confidentiality agreement, arguing in part that it was never signed by Trump.<\/p>\n<p data-elm-loc=\"32\">McDougal told Cooper that Daniels\u2019s decision\u00a0\u201cmade a little bit of an impact\u201d on her decision to speak out.<\/p>\n<p class=\"interstitial-link \" data-elm-loc=\"33\"><i>[<a href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonpost.com\/investigations\/trump-company-lawyer-involved-in-effort-to-keep-stormy-daniels-silent-document-shows\/2018\/03\/14\/1497d2b6-27e6-11e8-b79d-f3d931db7f68_story.html?utm_term=.8b7514ec52c8\">\u00a0Trump company lawyer involved in effort to keep Stormy Daniels silent, document shows\u00a0<\/a>]<\/i><\/p>\n<p data-elm-loc=\"34\">The\u00a0two women\u2019s stories<strong>\u00a0<\/strong>also appear to intersect.<\/p>\n<p data-elm-loc=\"35\">McDougal described spending time with Trump at a 2006 golf tournament in Lake Tahoe \u2014 where Daniels has said she first met and formed a relationship with Trump.<\/p>\n<p data-elm-loc=\"36\">\u201cI knew he talked to ladies,\u201d McDougal said, when asked by Cooper. \u201cI thought I was the only one.\u201d<\/p>\n<p data-elm-loc=\"37\">Cooper asked her about a denial issued by then-campaign spokeswoman Hope Hicks in 2016 that the affair claim was \u201c<a href=\"http:\/\/time.com\/4559610\/donald-trump-national-enquirer-karen-mcdougal\/\">totally untrue<\/a>.\u201d<\/p>\n<p data-elm-loc=\"38\">\u201cI think somebody\u2019s lying, and\u00a0I can tell you it\u2019s not me,\u201d McDougal said.<\/p>\n<p data-elm-loc=\"39\">McDougal said that she began discussions with AMI around the time that Trump secured the Republican nomination \u2014 not because she wanted to but because a friend had convinced her that she should own her story, which\u00a0had started seeping out in rumors on social media.
