A Washington State woman\u00a0with three young children<\/a>\u00a0will be deported and separated from her three daughters.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

Marysville resident Bernada Pineda said she has no criminal history and thought she was walking into a regular check-in meeting with\u00a0Department of Homeland Security<\/a>\u00a0officials. Instead, she left the meeting with a deportation order to return to Honduras within a month.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

\n

One of her three daughters attends\u00a0Kellogg Marsh Elementary<\/a>. When 9-year-old Stacey Alverado-Pineda told her teacher what was happening, the teacher decided she had to take action.<\/p>\n

\n

\u201cThey\u2019re my kids, it\u2019s hard for me,\u201d Pineda said.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

\n

After 12 years in the U.S., they\u2019ll only have a dozen more nights together.<\/p>\n

\n

Pineda came to the U.S. illegally in 2006 from Honduras, fleeing a country rife with poverty and violence. She came here to find a better life.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

\n

Since then, she\u2019s regularly met with immigration officials. Her next meeting, was supposed to be in April, but she received a letter asking to meet earlier \u201cto discuss your immigration case,\u201d it read.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

\n

\u201cWe didn\u2019t think anything was going to happen. We thought it was an early check-in,\u201d Sherly said.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

\n

The family said\u00a0an immigration officer handed her a letter<\/a>\u00a0that said her request for a stay of removal was denied and she had to leave or be deported.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

\n

Sherly had to translate for her mother so she could understand what was happening during the meeting.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

\n

\u201cI was in shock,\u201d Pineda said.<\/p>\n

\n

\u201cI had to buy my own ticket. If I don\u2019t do it, I have to go to the jail,\u201d Pineda said.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

\n

She bought the\u00a0one-way ticket back to a country she no longer knows<\/a>.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

\n

At that meeting, Pineda also was required to wear a GPS ankle bracelet.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

\n

\u201cThey don\u2019t explain nothing, they only say we have to put on the bracelet,\u201d Pineda said. \u201cI am not a criminal.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

\n

The day after the meeting with immigration officials, Stacey went to school upset.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

\n

\u201cHer lip was quivering, she was really stressed out,\u201d said Barbara McKinney, who teaches third grade at Kellogg Marsh Elementary. \u201cAll I could do was put my arms around her and hold her.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

\n

That\u2019s when she decided to help.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

\n

She started a GoFundMe<\/a>\u00a0to help with legal fees and costs of moving the girls to Chicago to stay with other family \u2013 who are already under hardship.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

\n

\u201cThis family is being ripped apart, destroyed really. And for what? I don\u2019t understand what could be more important than this family staying together,\u201d McKinney said.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

\n

A letter from\u00a0Immigration and Customs Enforcement<\/a>\u00a0officials reads \u201cAlthough I am sympathetic to the emotional and financial hardships associated with this case, they do not rise to the level of exceptional when compared to other persons and families similarly situated.\u201d<\/p>\n

\n

The letter ends with, \u201cPlease note, that this decision is final, and no appeal is permitted.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

\n

McKinney is\u00a0helping the family find a new attorney<\/a>\u00a0to look for other options that will help keep Pineda with her daughters in the United States.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
