Trump senior policy advisor Stephen Miller recently gained attention for\u00a0confirming the White House\u2019s consideration<\/a>\u00a0to require social media and phone contact information from foreign visitors. Of course, that report paled in comparison to the weekend controversy over Donald Trump\u2019s\u00a0immigration ban<\/a>, which blocked refugees from seven Muslim-majority countries from entering the country. Now, Miller (a relatively young whippersnapper at age 31) is receiving credit for\u00a0being the architect<\/a>\u00a0of what is \u2014 despite the Trump\u2019s administration claims \u2014 a\u00a0Muslim ban<\/a>.<\/p>\n

Mother Jones has dug into Miller\u2019s past and come up with\u00a0significant ties<\/a>\u00a0to white supremacists and neo-Nazis. He\u2019s apparently pretty tight with notorious\u00a0white nationalist Richard Spencer<\/a>, who called Miller \u201ca highly competent and tough individual\u201d that \u201cwill do a great job\u201d for Trump. Miller and Spencer attended Duke University together, where Miller wrote several college newspaper columns that denied the existence of systemic racism and railed against multiculturalism (or as he called it, \u201csegregation\u201d).<\/p>\n

Miller has also served as chief of communications for the\u00a0controversial Jeff Sessions<\/a>\u00a0(Trump\u2019s attorney general pick), whose\u00a0reported KKK jokes<\/a>\u00a0cost him a federal judge appointment.<\/p>\n

This morning, MSNBC\u2019s Joe Scarborough noted Miller\u2019s history and\u00a0tweeted this link<\/a>\u00a0to a Daily Beast article, which highlights how Spencer refers to himself as Miller\u2019s \u201cmentor\u201d and says, \u201cI hope I expanded his thinking.\u201d On\u00a0Morning Joe<\/em>, Scarborough also\u00a0ripped into Miller<\/a>\u00a0as someone lacking experience, who created a sloppy mess with this executive order:<\/p>\n

\u201cPeople \u2014 not to mention his name again \u2014 like Stephen Miller better learn very quickly if you\u2019re going to have the President of the United States sign something, maybe you better check it out with the other agencies \u2026 And by the time you\u2019re 35, maybe you\u2019ll know how Washington and the White House really works. If you\u2019re still around. I hope you\u2019re not \u2026 because this weekend was a disgrace and it\u2019s all on your shoulders.\u201d<\/p><\/blockquote>\n

Well, Miller appeared on Monday\u2019s episode of\u00a0CBS This Morning<\/em>\u00a0to defend Trump\u2019s executive order<\/a>\u00a0as something that\u2019s \u201chugely successful [and] challenges a failed orthodoxy.\u201d As far as the protests against the ban go, Miller reasons, \u201cIf nobody\u2019s disagreeing with what you\u2019re doing, then you\u2019re probably not doing anything that matters in the scheme of things.\u201d He also supports Kellyanne Conway\u2019s assertion that the relatively small number of travelers who were detained presented\u00a0a mere inconvenience<\/a>.
